The future in Dubai

Dubai or dubai city is located on the northern tip of the united arab emeritus on the persian gulf. it has been ruled
by the al maktoum dynasty since 1833 and has existed in its modern state since 1971. the current ruler is
mohammed bin rashid al maktoum, who is also the prime minister and vice president of the united arab emirates.
the rather small city has a population of 1.6 million people and a 37 billion USD economy based largely on trade,
manufacturing and financial services. contrary to popular belief petrol and natural gas only make up a small
percentage of revenues.
the city has gained world-wide attention in the past few years because of its booming economy and ambitious
architectural projects. with a focus on business and tourism, the city is ramping up construction on an
unprecedented level. in fact, dubai is said to be home to 15% to 25% of the world's 125,000 construction cranes.
don't think that the architectural expansion is over, because a slew of new project are on the table and in
the works as we speak.

Dubai Bubble

No one can say that Dubai is not forward thinking in their plans for the emirate. There seems to be a never ending supply of new developments and staggering construction projects. An interesting statistic I came across recently –

25 percent of the world’s operating construction cranes are currently in Dubai - working. That’s 30,000 cranes at the moment.

Some are beginning to question the sustainability of all this, especially when you consider all the construction is in the desert - with limited water supply and every single project putting more and more pressure on a limited infrastructure. Money week made an interesting comment recently – “When a property developer starts handing out free BMWs and Bentleys with every apartment sale, you can be sure that a property bubble isn’t far off popping.”

This was in response to a recent promotion run by DAMAC which promised a free BMW or Bentley with every condominium sale. But they do like to do things on a large scale in Dubai. Whether this can continue indefinitely or not remains to be seen. Unlikely we feel.

Wild Wadi

The Wild Wadi Water Park is a huge water park filled with adrenalin rush water rides, or alternatively the park offers the means to relax and unwind. The park is located next to the Burj al Arab tower, and is often visited by the rich and famous.

The park most likely will be different than what you're used to of water parks. Water shoots every where in the rides. You can experience rides that last 15 minutes. There is a 1.5 meter high waves in the wave pool. And there are rides with jets pushing you up the slides.

Women can wear a one piece swimming suit and men can wear swimming trunks in the park.

The Falcon City of Wonders

So, what's new at Dubai? The latest project is called the Falcon City of Wonders and is a $1.5 billion bird-shaped city which will include life-size replicas of seven wonders of the world as well as offices, shops and flats.

Three buildings will be modeled on structures that were part of the original list of the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" — the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Others will be replicas of more modern wonders — the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Great Wall of China, a statement said.

The Falcon City website has details of each structure in the massive undertaking. The project is spread over an area of 100 acres and will be created in five overlapped phases, with the first phase expected to begin by the first quarter of 2006.

The Palm Jebel Ali

The Palm Jebel Ali is the middle-sized island of the three Palm Islands (Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira). It is located on the Jebel Ali coastal area of the emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The unique man-made palm-shaped island will consist of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker.

The Jebel Ali Palm is more of an entertainment destination for both adults and children, which caters to both residents and tourists. The island will also be 50% larger than the Palm Jumeirah, and will include six marinas, a 'Sea Village', a water theme park and water homes built on stilts between the fronds and the crescent. Construction began on the Palm Jebel Ali in October 2002

The Palm Deira

The Palm Deira is the largest of the three Palm Islands (Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira). It is located on the Deirah coastal area of the emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The unique man-made palm-shaped island will consist of a trunk, a crown with 41 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker.

The Deira Palm island was not initially intended to be developed, but on October 2004, the annoucement of its development was issued. The Palm Deira will cover 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) in length and 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles) in width and have an area of 80 square kilometers (861 million square feet). It will consist of residential property, marinas, shopping malls, sports facilities, and clubs. The residential area will be located on the fronds and will contain 8,000 two-storey town houses in three distinct styles - Premier Villas, Grand Villas and Vista Town Homes

The Palm, Jumeirah

We have repeatedly raved and ranted about Palm Jumeirah! Now we offer a visual treat of this extraordinary tangible reality. An icon for Dubai, the Palm Jumeirah is a marvel of design and engineering- and a natural candidate for the title of ‘Eight Wonder of the World.’ The first island in the Palm trilogy, it has risen from Arabian Gulf in just five years. The unique man-made island is built in the shape of a date palm tree and consists of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker. The Palm Jumeirah is set to become one of the world’s premier resorts with 32 beach front hotels joining Atlantis The Palm resorts and The Trump Hotel & Tower to welcome an estimated 25,000 hotel guests. Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab (Arabic: برج العرب‎, literally, Tower of the Arabs) is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At 321 metres (1,053 ft), it is the second tallest building used exclusively as a hotel, after Rose Tower, also in Dubai.[2] However, the structure of the unfinished Ryugyong Hotel is nine meters taller than the Burj Al Arab, and the Rose Tower, also in Dubai, which has already topped Burj Al Arab's height at 333 m (1,090 ft), will take away the title upon its opening.[3][4][5] The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat.
